Indian troops kill two youth in occupied Kashmir

Puppet authorities have suspended mobile internet services in the area

Indian troops killed two Kashmiri youth during a cordon and search operation in Indian occupied Kashmir (IOK) on Friday night, reported Kashmir Media Service.

The operation was conducted in Shashtargam in the Dooru area of the district. Puppet authorities have also suspended mobile internet services in the area, while train service between Srinagar and Banihal has been suspended.



In Pulwama distrct of IoK, people staged forceful demonstrations and raised pro-freedom and anti-India slogans after Indian police and troops launched a cordon and search operation in Sirnoo.

The police fired teargas shells to disperse the protesters, triggering clashes between the demonstrators and the forces’ personnel. The protesters compelled the Indian forces to call off the operation.

Earlier this month, United Nations High Commissioner (UNHC) for Human Rights Zeid al Hussein declared the situation in Indian Occupied Kashmir as a matter of grave concern at the 37^th session of Human Rights Council in Geneva.

Hussein announced that the UN will be launching a major report on the situation in Kashmir in June 2018 when the UNHRC will hold its next session.

In September last year, Amnesty International reiterated its call for a ban on pellet-firing shotguns used by Indian forces in occupied Kashmir to quell civilian protests. In a report, the rights group said it had interviewed 88 people whose eyesight had been damaged by the metal shot from the pump-action guns.



Government forces in Indian-held Kashmir have been using pellet guns since 2010 as a “non-lethal” weapon following wide-scale civilian protests against Indian rule.
