KARACHI: Police claimed to have killed on Friday a suspect and arrested another, who were allegedly involved in the killing of an A-Level student for offering resistance during an attempted robbery.

An A-Level student, Asad Khan, was shot dead around a week ago in Gulistan-e-Jauhar Block I. He was returning from a nearby mosque after offering prayers when he was intercepted by three muggers on a motorcycle. Khan tried to run away, after which one of the muggers shot and killed him. Following the incident, Khan's family staged a protest and demanded the arrest of the street criminal gangs operating in the area.

Aziz Bhatti police, however, claim to have killed one of the suspects and arrested another during an alleged encounter near Dalmia. Police officials said that a suspected criminal was killed and his companion was arrested during an alleged encounter with the police near Dalmia within the limits of the Aziz Bhatti police station.

Police officials said that the encounter took place when the police was busy in routine snap-checking in the area, adding that the police intercepted the two suspects riding a motorcycle. The suspects opened fire at the police instead of stopping their motorcycle. The police also retaliated and killed one of them after an exchange of fire and arrested another.
