Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif said on Friday that democracy, empowerment of Parliament and rule of law is the only way forward for a prosperous Pakistan.

Deposed prime minister Nawaz Sharif in his Pakistan Day message said that March 23 holds unparalleled importance in the history of Pakistan because it was this day when South Asian Muslims vowed to actively struggle for independence.

“The vision of the Quaid and the dream of Allama Iqbal are being accomplished,” Nawaz said remarking that the country was following the path of economic prosperity and globally emerging as a powerful entity. He added that the nation presented unmatched sacrifices for country’s defense and security.

For democracy: Sharif says ready to sit with army

“Our struggles are reflected in reduced terrorism and increasing peace within the country,” Sharif said, “We present tribute to the martyrs who laid down their lives for Pakistan”.

The former PM also said that the secret to country’s prosperity lies in the sustainable system of democracy based on sanctity of the public vote.

“Pakistan emerged on the world map on the basis of solid determination for democracy and public vote,” he said.

“We have our highest regard for those who sacrificed their lives fighting dictatorships trying to suppress democracy in the country,” Nawaz added.
