PESHAWAR: An improvised explosive device (IED) went off outside a house in Peshawar's Bashirabad area of Pajjagi Road, injuring one woman on late Thursday night.

Speaking to The Express Tribune, a Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa police official said the house of a local spice trade was targeted in the jurisdiction of Faqirabad Police Station in what appears to be an extortion related case.

He said the owner, a well-known spice dealer in the city, had been receiving threats from extortionists.

The woman received minor injuries as pieces of glass hit her following the blast.

Shortly after the incident, the police officials reached the area while bomb disposal unit was also called to inspect the site. Further investigation of the incident is underway.

Minor killed, another injured in North Waziristan IED explosion

Last month, three people were injured in a roadside bomb attack targeting the car of a senior government official on Peshawar’s Ring Road. An IED planted in a motorcycle was detonated when the vehicle of deputy director of Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) drove past in Dir Colony, according to police.

Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan’s Jamaatul Ahrar faction claimed responsibility for the attack.
