Losing personal data

Being alert and careful can help millions of people from losing their data to third party apps

KARACHI: The news of social media giant, Facebook, allegedly aiding the Trump election campaign to give the then presidential candidate information on his voters has left social media users shocked. Many using the social network rarely think twice before putting details of their personal data on the website or using third party apps to give access to Facebook. But this information sharing has left millions of active users vulnerable to breach of privacy.

In the wake of these developments, it becomes increasingly important for social media companies to devise measures that keep the data of their users private. More importantly, not only Facebook users, but social media users of any other popular platforms, such as Twitter or Instagram, should also be vigilant about where and to whom are they linking their social media profiles to. Being alert and careful can help millions of people from losing their data to third party apps.
