PML-N will decide Chaudhry Nisar's political future in the party: Ahsan Iqbal

Iqbal further discussed the basis of caretaker PM selection

Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal on Wednesday said that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) senior leader Chaudhry Nisar’s future in PML-N will be decided by the party since this is an internal matter.

Talking to media in Islamabad, Iqbal said that the discussions over caretaker prime minister have kicked off and the decision will be taken in light of Pakistan’s progressive democratic future. He said that the selection would be based on the grounds of picking someone who can ensure free and fair elections and not someone who can potentially harm the process of elections or create a ruckus, Express News reported.



Ahsan Iqbal said that the decision of Chaudhry Nisar’s political future in PML-N will be sorted out within the party.

Responding to a question he said that the name of 600 people has been sent to the cabinet to be placed on the Exit Control List. These names were put on ECL in August 2016 and the cabinet will form a decision soon.

Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said on Monday that he will not remain a part of the party if Maryam Nawaz becomes its leader, Express News reported.

“She [Maryam] is not the party leader but if she is given the mantle I will quit,” he added.

While referring to certain quarters in the PML-N who denounced him for opposing ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s challenging the Supreme Court’s verdict in the Panama Papers case, Nisar said: “When nothing could be found against me they began to question my friendship with Imran Khan,” he said.
