Govt vows to eradicate hepatitis

Specialised health institutions adopt strategy to eradicate hepatitis and to control liver and kidney diseases

LAHORE: The health departments in collaboration with other specialised health institutions will adopt a strategy to eradicate hepatitis and to control liver and kidney diseases. This was stated by Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Secretary Najam Ahmed Shah. He was chairing a joint meeting of all stakeholders on Tuesday. During the meeting, it was revealed that 2,626,260 people had been vaccinated against hepatitis-B. Furthermore, 17 gastroenterology units are being set up in tertiary care hospitals, while Rs2.5 billion each were spent establishing the Multan Institute of Kidney Diseases and the Bahawalpur Kidney Centre. In Rawalpindi, the Institute of Urology, worth Rs3.5 billion, is also nearly completed, he said.
