Penalty for perjury

Letter March 21, 2018
The perjury case is far more serious than we think

KARACHI: Controversial television host Dr Shahid Masood has earned a three-month ban for making false allegations in the Supreme Court about the Zainab murder case convict’s ‘foreign links’ to a pornographic ring. Dr Masood’s submission of an unconditional apology came just too late by which time the bench had already ruled against him.

The perjury case is far more serious than we think. While Dr Masood has been penalised for his actions, there are in fact many more individuals in the broadcast media who deserve to be punished for their shoot from the lip behaviour. Isn’t it time that the courts also took action against them, especially if Pemra is unwilling to do the same?
