Surviving the summer

Letter March 21, 2018
Work on this campaign should be started on a priority basis

KARACHI: This summer is expected to be the hottest in years and residents of Karachi ought to be prepared. The fact that Ramazan will fall in May means that Muslims will be fasting in soaring temperatures. Therefore, the authorities concerned and welfare organisations should sit together and start devising a plan on how to facilitate not only the Muslim populace in the country but all residents of the metropolis, including the poor and needy who are especially vulnerable in the soaring temperatures.

Perhaps a two-fold strategy can be devised. Firstly, welfare organisations and hospitals should equip themselves with basic necessities to beat the heat and secondly, citizens should be sensitised on first aid as well as be advised to keep things like water coolers outside their homes.

Work on this campaign should be started on a priority basis to avoid any casualties or mishaps.
