Maryam Nawaz, daughter and political heir apparent to deposed premier Nawaz Sharif, said that former military ruler (retd) Gen Pervez Musharraf left the country in ruins and now has the nerve to ask for security on his return, Express News reported.

The ruling Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz (PML-N) leader remarked outside the National Accountability Court in Islamabad on Tuesday where the ruling family has been facing corruption cases.

Musharraf, who is also the chief of All Pakistan Muslim League (APML), has convened a meeting of party leaders in Dubai on Wednesday (tomorrow) to discuss the government’s offer to provide him ‘foolproof security’ upon his return to Pakistan to face a pending high treason trial.

"I honestly don't know what crime my family has committed and why it is being victimised," Maryam said, adding, "Is it a crime to amass wealth through a fair means?"

Maryam went on to say that nothing could be proved against her family in the first six months of proceedings by the anti-graft watchdog.

Will quit PML-N if Maryam is made its leader: Chaudhry Nisar

"We ourselves have come forward to submit all the documents before NAB. There is no real weight in their case," the former first daughter also said.

"If you claim that our hands aren't clean then you must prove it," she insistred.

Criticising the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman, Maryam said: "Imran Khan confessed to having offshore accounts but he is still believed to be Mr Clean."
