ISLAMABAD: The trend of throwing objects at politicians has lately become a norm in the country, especially as the general elections are nearing. After ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif and PTI Chairman Imran Khan, the latest person to be met with this fate is PTI MNA Ayesha Gulalai. In fact, workers of her own party threw eggs and tomatoes at her as she arrived at a hotel in Bahawalpur for a press conference, while chanting “Go Gulalai, Go.”
Such an act should be condemned by all parties. Treating lawmakers of a democratic setup in such a demeaning and disrespectful way should be unacceptable and discouraged. Not only does it show Pakistan in a negative light but may also lead laymen thinking that they can vent their frustration over politicians’ poor performance by throwing things at them. This should be stopped.
