Water shortage

Soaring temperatures and declining water supplies in Karachi have made people scream out loud

KARACHI: Karachi that is already reeling under energy shortages, like the rest of Pakistan, is now facing another crisis — this time over shrinking water supplies. The problem is getting worse as each day passes. Soaring temperatures and declining water supplies in Karachi have made people scream out loud. This issue is also majorly affecting the health of citizens, especially owing to an increase in bacteria.

Due to the shortage of water, people are calling for water tankers that often do not supply clean water suitable for use. Therefore the outbreak of diseases is almost inevitable. According to reports, 70 per cent of Karachi is without water, in fact, even clean drinking water is unavailable. Moreover, the regular bouts of load-shedding have made the situation worse.

The authorities concerned and the provincial government should look into the matter on a priority basis.
