Abid Boxer not yet extradited, LHC told

Says custody of encounter specialist not yet taken by any agency

LAHORE: Infamous ‘encounter specialist’ and former inspector of Punjab Police, Abid Hussain alias Abid Boxer, has not been extradited to Pakistan, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) told the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday.

The LHC judge Anwarul Haq was hearing a petition seeking protection of the former policeman who was arrested last month in the United Arab Emirates for his alleged role in a fraud case.

The FIA’s Director Interpol Tahir Nawaz appeared before the court and said Abid Boxer still was not in Pakistan as he had not been brought back to the country by any agency. Later, Justice Haq put off further proceedings until March 28.



Jaffar Rafi, Abid’s father-in-law, had moved the petition in the LHC and submitted that his son-in-law had been booked in a number of cases and he feared that the accused would be killed in a fake encounter as soon he got back to the country.

The petitioner said fair trial under Article 10-A of the Constitution was the right of Abid Boxer. He requested the court to summon record of all cases registered against his son-n-law and order the FIA and the police to ensure his protection.
