Plane loses 3 tonnes of gold during take-off

An-12 plane was carrying 8.3 tonnes of gold and other precious metals

A hatch of a cargo plane accidentally flew open during takeoff, which was carrying precious metals that led to nearly 3 tonnes of gold to scatter on the runway.

The incident is under investigation that happened on Thursday at the airport in the fair east city of Yakutsk, Russian, News reported.

According to a statement from the state Investigative Committee quoted by Tass, the plane known as An-12 plane operated by the airline Nimbus took off for Krasnoyarsk carrying 8.3 tonnes of gold and other precious metals.



Door handle’s damage was the reason to fly open and leave some of the metal outside.

Authorities recovered 172 gold bars weighing 3 tonnes, officials said.

There were no casualties in the incident while pictures went viral on social media showing gold bars scattered all over the runway.
