Lack of records on NAP

Letter March 15, 2018
The provincial government of K-P is not even aware of a number of religious seminaries operating in the province

LAHORE: Post the launch of the National Action Plan (NAP), madrassa reforms surfaced as the priority of the federal and provincial governments alike. Whereas the implementation of reforms has not yet seen the light of day, according to a news report, the provincial government of K-P is not even aware of a number of religious seminaries operating in the province. It does not have any information about the number of children enrolled or studying in these madrassas or the curriculum that is being taught there.

This is a sad picture of NAP and shows the lack of priority the incumbent federal and provincial governments have given to legislation pertaining to reforms. It is pertinent to note here that it took no time for the K-P government to pay a monthly stipend to clerics in the province. Despite the hue and cry raised over the issue of reforms during the past four years, being a major step towards curbing terrorist activities in the country, no urgency has been shown by the provincial government.
