Investigations into the murder of a medical student in Mardan have revealed that the prime suspect, Mujahid Ullah Afridi had killed a man in Kohat six month prior to killing Asma Rani.
Afridi was also presented in front of civil judge 12 Riaz Aslam in his court. The court handed over the accused to the police for ten-day physical remand.
Addressing media in Peshawar’s Malik Saad Shaheed Police Lines, District Police Officer (DPO) Kohat Abbas Majeed Marwat said the man’s family had settled the matter with Afridi hence there was no police case.
DPO Marwat appraised the media on Afridi’s arrest from Sharjah. “He had been changing his location in Dubai,” he said. “Until the UAE state security arrested him.”
Afridi was extradited to Pakistan with the help of Interpol on Saturday. He was arrested at the Islamabad airport upon his arrival from the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

“We requested Interpol through the Federal Investigation Agency to arrest Afridi when he escaped to Saudi Arabia,” said Marwat. “We were in constant contact from day one with FIA, Interpol and UAE state security.”
The police officer added that Afridi’s facilitators namely Sadiqullah and Shazeb were already arrested while the murder weapon had also been recovered along with the car used by the prime suspect to flee the scene of crime. “The recovered weapon had been sent to the forensic lab which confirmed it was the murder weapon.”
“The cooperation by UAE state security was exemplary,” observed Marwat. “Afridi was extradited within three days of arrest.”
The police officials will request court for a 10-day remand as the case is being investigated on scientific lines. Afridi will be moved to Kohat soon to face court.
Rani, a medical student, was fatally injured outside of her house in the Kohat Development Authority Township. Later, in her dying declaration, she had accused Afridi of shooting her with the help of his brother and a friend.
Afridi, son of a wealthy man and nephew of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) district leader in Kohat, had apparently targeted Rani after she refused his marriage proposal.
The accused, who was already married and had a business in the UAE, managed to escape to Saudi Arabia on the day of the incident from the Islamabad airport using an Umrah visa.
