Class boycott persists for the last two weeks

ISLAMABAD: The Academic Staff Association (ASA) of Quaid-i-Azam University has announced a complete shutdown of the university form Monday onwards. This decision came in the aftermath of the five weeks long protest demanding the vice chancellor’s resignation.

Class boycott has also persisted for the last two weeks. “We tried several possible options in a peaceful manner but the indifferent attitude of the concerned authorities have pushed us to take this decision,” stated ASA General Secretary Dr Sohail Yousaf.  We are sticking to our one point demand the resignation of the vice chancellor.”

Meanwhile, VC Javed Ashraf refuting the allegations said the ASA people wanted undue promotions. Regarding his role as VC, Asharf said that during his 41 months at QAU, the university has continuously moved up in the rankings. “We have been named the top university in Pakistan, counted among top 500 in the world (the only Pakistani university to earn this distinction) and 79th in the Asian Rankings.”
