Corruption in government offices

To get the overstated amount of Rs70,000 as tax challan reduced, I was advised to pay Rs15,000

KARACHI: Recently, I visited the Property Tax Department SITE office in Karachi, to inquire about a show-cause notice issued concerning a plot located in the same locality. Contrary to the claims of the department and to our unawareness we had been previously issued a tax challan for the same in July 2017, but due to the absence of the property owner the challan could not be served, so now a notice has been issued.

To get the overstated amount of Rs70,000 as tax challan reduced, I was advised to pay Rs15,000 to the officer concerned as bribe in open violation of laws.

The question is why these issues are not being addressed and why are officials not taking action against corruption and fraudulent activities? This might mean they are making money from these corruption and illegal activities.
