Kher, who turned 63 on March 7, 2018 was shooting for the pilot episode of an international television series for NBC, when his Silver Linings Playbook co-star De Niro surprised him by hosting a private dinner for him at his residence.
Kher shared a video of himself along with De Niro and thanked him and his wife Grace Hightower for making his 63rd birthday special.

Kher was also invited for lunch at De Niro's residence in June, 2017.

In 2013, Kher has also invited De Niro to his school where the Taxi Driver actor met other Bollywood celebrities such as Ranbir Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, Anil Kapoor and Varun Dhawan.
Silver Linings Playbook is a rom-com film written and directed by David O Russell. It was released in 2012 and showed Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence in lead roles. Jacki Weaver, Chris Tucker and Julia Stiles were also a part of the film.
