Says ties are equally important to Washington as they are to Islamabad

Stressing over the need of restoring the Pak-US relationship, Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua said that the ties are equally important to the United States (US) as they are to Pakistan.

While speaking to foreign journalists in the Pakistani Embassy in Washington, Janjua said there is a need to re-establish the dialogues and works that have happened in the past 70 years. She said that Pakistan and the US are good cohorts against al Qaeda and terrorism. She said that both the countries will have to work collaboratively for restoring peace in the region.

Underscoring the importance of CPEC, the foreign secretary said that corridor holds significant importance for regional harmony. Regional cooperation is the basic strategy of Pakistan against, extremism and terrorism, said Janjua.

The Foreign Secretary is in the US on a two-day official visit and is endeavoring to make the mutual relations healthier. She said that Pakistan stresses on taking all the strict measures for the eradication of terrorism.

Janjua further said that there should be a structured dialogue between the US and Pakistan. She said all the issues should be talked upon during dialogues with the US. She said that Washington also wants to continue dialogue with Islamabad.

The foreign secretary also spoke on the Afghanistan issue and said five working groups have been suggested to the country by Pakistan.

Addressing the event organised especially in relation to the International Women’s Day, the special guest, Tehmina Janjua said that women are playing an important role in Pakistan's progress. The government is determined to empower women. It is especially determined in their active participation in the political and economic department. A lot still needs to be done. Women today enjoy freedom and rights that were never granted before.

Earlier, Pakistan’s ambassador to US Aizaz Chaudhary welcomed Tehmina Janjua who is the first women to work as a foreign secretary. Lauding women’s reach to senior designations, Aizaz Chaudhary said that the Pakistan fraternity lauds the role played by American women for progression of the country.
