Girl Power: Int’l Women’s Day celebrated at IU  

Pakistani women are playing an active role in every walk of life

BAHAWALPUR:
A seminar to celebrate International Women’s Day was held at the Islamia University Bahawalpur. The participants were briefed on United Nation’s theme for this year which is “Time is Now: Rural and Urban activities Transforming Women’s Lives.” Speakers highlighted legislation meant to protect women at the workplace. They said Pakistani women were playing an active role in every walk of life. The government, society and the media were also contributing towards the welfare and development of women. They added our women were exemplary in their bravery, courage and patience and were playing their part in the prosperity of the country. The participants also lauded the efforts of Vice-Chancellor Dr Qaiser Mushtaq, who established a day care centre and a female study park. The park was the first of its kind in Pakistan which provides outdoor facilities, including shaded seating and free WiFi. Furthermore, a tennis court and a basketball court had also been constructed on the campus.
