The Women Development Policy drafted by Punjab government should be sustainable effort
KARACHI: It is commendable that the government of Punjab has formulated a Women Development Policy and is set to launch it on March 8. When talking about women’s empowerment or gender equality, there are innumerable issues that need to be discussed with the purpose of their redressal. Although the policy covers a fair share of major issues women face, it is important that the initiative is not to be just another formality on Women’s Day. The relevant ministry and departments must ensure that the policy is fully put into effect across the province and in all private and public sector setups.
Gender equality and its correlated indicators are important for Pakistan to achieve its Sustainable Development Goals, which are determined through collective progress rate of provinces. The federal government should issue directives to provinces for formulation and issuance of similar policies.
