Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi Amir Muhammad Hussain Mehanti met Sadiq Daniel, the bishop of Holy Trinity Church cathedral, on Monday and invited him to attend the party’s national conference on May 12.
The party’s focus for the conference is to bring together all national parties and stakeholders to discuss the “deplorable” law and order situation of the city and form a solution, Mehanti said.
“The reverberations of May 12, 2007 can still be felt in the city as no one is safe. Inviting the entire community would prove beneficial as it is the only solution left now,” he said. At least 45 people were killed in violence and shoot-outs across the city on May 12, 2007. Bishop Daniel said Christians had always participated in community events, “especially those that demand the perpetrators be punished.” JI’s naib amir, Nasrullah Khan Shajji, said they want all political parties to sit together and agree on a one-point agenda.
