Health facilities in rural K-P

Letter March 06, 2018
villagers and those living on the outskirts of cities continue to suffer

KARACHI: The benefits of an increased health budget and improvement in the standard of medical facilities are yet to reach the rural population of the K-P province, despite an increase in the number of postings to dispensaries and clinics made in these areas. This is also because health workers and medics prefer to get posted to cities. They regard lack of proper accommodation and transport facilities as compelling reasons for their decision to move to urban areas. With that, villagers and those living on the outskirts of cities continue to suffer and have to travel miles to seek treatment in hospitals in cities.

To ensure that doctors appointed in villages and suburbs perform duties in the assigned areas only, the provincial health department needs to ensure that strict action is taken against such people. Further, these doctors should also be facilitated according to their needs.
