Faisal crashes out on opening day

Two out of five players progress in World Table Tennis Championship.

Pakistan suffered mixed fortunes on the opening day of the 2011 World Table Tennis Championship as national champion Ali Faisal crashed out but number two Asim Qureshi and Saleem Abbas progressed in the qualifiers.

Faisal lost 11-5, 8-11, 11-9, 9-11, 11-8, 11-4 against Canada’s Pierre-Luc Hinse after he had earlier lost to Philippines’ Ernesto Ebuen 11-6, 11-7, 11-3, 12-10.

Qureshi got a walkover against Albania’s Sokol Dogjani but lost to Trinidad and Tobago’s Dexter Louis 11-9, 11-8, 11-6, 11-5.

“It’s been tough luck for us in the first round,” Qureshi told The Express Tribune. “Faisal is very disappointed as he had the toughest draw among us.”

Abbas progressed with a walkover against Madagascar’s Nicolas Razafimanjy. However, he lost to Ukraine’s Ivan Katov 11-4, 11-3, 11-4, 11-6.

Meanwhile, Yasir Bhatti lost to US Mark Hazinski 4-0 and Venezuela’s Jonathan Pino 4-0. Muhammad Yousuf also finished his run in the tournament when French Quentin Robinot and Scotland’s Sean Doherty defeated him 4-0 in their singles matches.

Bilal Ahmed | 13 years ago | Reply Why not our electronic media promote such a great game. No one know about even the WC takes place. So how the game progress in country. Such a cheap game if our government and our Institutions help this game, many players compete on the World map.
