World Wildlife Day celebrated at Lahore Zoo

Schoolchildren sing songs and present skits on animal protection

LAHORE: The World Wildlife Day aims to raise public awareness and strives towards the restoration and improvement of wildlife, said Punjab Wildlife and Parks Director General Khalid Ayaz Khan.

Celebrating the occasion at a gathering at Lahore Zoo, he stressed the need for civil behaviour towards the animals adding that preserving wildlife has become a crucial need of recent times.

“The department must utilise its resources to protect wildlife however, without public support the desired results cannot be achieved,” said Khan. Wildlife is the beauty of nature which is why we need to practice our humanistic and religious responsibility by protecting endangered species and abstaining from illegal hunting, he added.

Birds, reptiles and mammals of all types were exhibited at the event, including guinea pigs, tortoises, eagles and pythons to name a few. Students from several schools sang songs and presented skits on animal protection. A clay-modelling competition also took place among the children.  Wildlife and Parks Department organised awareness stalls and a wildlife walk. Wildlife and Parks DG also distributed souvenirs among the participants. Lahore Zoo Director Hassan Ali Sukhera and other officials from the Wildlife and Parks Department attended the event.
