Twitter Alert: Criticism aplenty for Gilani's OBL speech

Local twitterati comments on statements by PM Gilani in his parliamentary address.

May 09, 2011

Pakistani Twitterati got all geared up as Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani began addressing the parliament on the Osama bin Laden operation on Monday. His statements were not only immediately tweeted but were also extensively criticised.

The US conducted an operation in Abbottabad last week in which al Qaeda’s top leader and also the world’s most wanted terrorist bin Laden was killed.

Here’s a round-up of some of the tweets:

Cyril Almeida

PM Gilani rejects Pak incompetence or complicity. He didn't rule out both, however.

Abbas Nasir

TV anchors' gripe with Gilani: The Ghairat agenda is ours.

Ejaz Haider

of course PM was not addressing pakistanis; he was signalling outsiders...

Azmat Khan

Pakistan pulls the China card...

Raza Rumi

As expected Gilani attempts to bail out the security establishment - in national interest of course #Pakistan

Farieha Aziz

You wait for them to address the nation, and then want to go bury your head somewhere!

Omar Waraich

Parliament's looking pretty empty for what is supposed to be a major Gilani speech

Maria | 12 years ago | Reply In all fairness to Gilani, I thought he did a good job of rebutting all of the allegations. They should have come out with this type of statement early on. Anderson Cooper in the US TV shows still goes on and on about a $ 1 000 000 fortress house in Abbottabad when locals know that the house is hardly worth a quarter of what is being reported. The American Indian reporter Fareed Zakaria is also throwing around baseless allegations too. Pakistan needs to put things in perspective for the world.. It was a run down typical home with walls just like millions of others. The best place to hide in Pakistan is a city and if the neighbors all didn't know and couldn't collect on the 50 million dollar reward, it tells you that OBL wasn't so easy to find. This is all just a witch hunt against Pakistan and the government and military should stand firm and keep on eye on the real agenda of this witch hunt which is to demonize Pakistan, take away our ability to defend ourselves and dismantle our nukes so that India can walk over us.
