Gilani to warn US over Osama raid: Telegraph

PM will take an aggressive stand to shore up the government's position in a national address.

LONDON: Yusuf Raza Gilani will seek to restore some dignity in an address to the nation after the humiliation caused when American forces killed Osama bin Laden at a compound close to Pakistan’s main military academy in Abbottabad last week without alerting Pakistan, the daily Telegraph website reported on Sunday.

A senior government source close to the prime minister said Mr Gilani will take an aggressive stand to shore up the government’s position, the paper said.

The source said: “The Prime Minister will say that the United States should not have bypassed Pakistan. We have made a huge contribution in fighting terrorism. We’ve arrested close to 100 al-Qaeda people, including Khalid Sheikh Mohammed.

“We’ll take appropriate action if any further violation takes place. We will defend our air space by any means we have.”

He will say that Washington’s decision to launch the raid without consulting Islamabad had plunged military and political relations between the frosty allies to a new low.

Sources in Mr Gilani’s office said the country’s air defences on its Western border will now be upgraded to confront any future US raids from bases in Afghanistan.

Mr Gilani is also expected to announce his own inquiry and to consult opposition leaders about the future of Pakistan’s relationship with the United States.

Naveed | 13 years ago | Reply I think a full blown conflict between US and Pakistan would prove to be the end of the US dominance in world affairs....not that Pakistan is some kind of hidden mighty power but because many other factors that will come into play....Pakistan is a country which for the moment has hardly anything to loose. which makes it all the more dangerous.

So every Hindu in Pakistan now wants to become President???Dude they want equal rights and opportunity, not Presidentship...we can have a Muslim Head of State, and millions of Happy Hindus......or we can have a Hindu Head of State and millions of miserable Hindus, like u have in India...a Muslim president and 15 crore miserable Muslims...

George | 13 years ago | Reply Does this mean Pakistan is going to take down the drones flying freely over the tribal areas and engaging targets there (which is happening even now I sure).. What if an US fighter, Helicopter (not drone) & special ops team members is actually shot/ shot down, is Pakistan ready for the aftermath & pubic pressure in the US will force a harder response. Something I think the Pakistani PM & team haven't though clearly about....

For sure the dog knows there will be few bones thrown at him at the end of the game and remains the slave for the sake of few bones. For Pak, this game has been played by our generals and politicians for the last 60 years, they (and the nation of Pakistan) will remain slave for the sake of few dollars and the master will always be issuing orders...go fetch boy...go fetch....

Indians and Brithish tried their level best to stop Mr. Jinnah, but he succeeded in getting a free land. Which is still alive and will remain alive. Mr. Jinnah achived to facilitate the supperresed muslims by a dialog Mr. Ashoke only a dialog. Your command on history is really poor. Even your leaders like Nehro and Indra have praised Mr. Jinnah several times. Please visit a book house near your home you will certainly find dozens of books of your own renowned history authors who have written qualities of Jinnah. Jaswant Singh research work is the latest. You Indians always live in a dream world. You are really ignorant about history. It was the indians who killed many muslims in their own country at the time of Partition. And they still kill. We still have hindus on our soil but have you ever heard any injustice or violance against them. After more than 6 decades, Indians still without proper arguments and ground reallities. They failed to stop Partition in 1947, failed to reunit the soil they claim theirs, will remain be a failed nation at least in this case. InshaAllah.

It was not Jinnah but Gandhi, Nehru and Sardar Patel that caused the breach of the Cabinet Mission Plan and the Cripps Plan. Not Jinnah. That is when the greatest volume of indigenous religious minorities were removed from Pakistan, right after a long period of senseless violence, preceded only by Direct Action day, something which Jinnah called for, oversaw and which Gandhi had to clean up for. I can't believe the population of Pakistan does not have the ability to criticize figures like Jinnah to this day from an objective, empirical based manner. It just amazes me. There was no sudden utopia on the day Pakistan became independent. The same day the flag of Pakistan was first hoisted, there would have been many Sindhis, Punjabis and Kashmiri Pandits fleeing to India. What's there to cheer about that? Those were people who originated on that land thousands of years ago and preserved the native culture there. You need a completely new Pakistan, not Jinnah's Pakistan or anyone else's Pakistan.

sadiq salman | 13 years ago | Reply our own authorities should have caught osama a long time ago,these religious barbarians have been wreaking havoc in our country for over 3 decades,as long as these religious terrorists were being sent to kashmir to fight the kaafirs it was ok for our conscience but after 9/11 when that outward flow was stopped & these people turned inwards & we've seen their evil ways inspired by religion. it is time all these jiahdi terrorist groups are disbanded & not allowed to reappear with different names after a while,enough is enough we want jinnah's pakistan back which he outlined in his 11th August speech.
