Flood fallout: Doubling labour to build model villages

DCO summons extra workers to finish construction by June 30.

The district coordination officer (DCO) has issued orders to several construction companies to double the number of labourers currently under service for the construction of model villages. On Sunday, DCO Iftikhar Ali Sahu said that the model villages being constructed for flood victims were of the utmost importance and that most construction work on these villages should be completed by June 30. DCO Sahu was visiting a village in Dhool Anbryan where a project of 100 homes had been launched by the Punjab government. He directed the construction companies to complete roof construction by May 15 and ensure use of quality material for the new houses.

The DCO instructed the Taunsa assistant commissioner (AC) to visit the site on a daily basis and check the speed and quality of the work. “These villages need to be completed as soon as possible because flood victims are currently living without a roof over their heads. After everything these people have been through it is the government’s duty to ensure that they are given homes,” Sahu said.  The DCO issued a statement that the water and power development agency (Wapda) had already installed electricity poles with transformers in the village and that power connections would be provided to all homes after construction was completed.
