KSA shedding ‘conservative image’

This will change the social dynamic of the kingdom as women will be in decision-making positions

KARACHI: Since the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has been trying to shed its conservative image, the country has witnessed a lot of firsts — the most recent being a jazz concert that was held on Friday, Feb 23rd with a mixed audience of men and women. While many may accuse the kingdom of doing things too quickly in a desperate attempt to appear to be a progressive nation, we can’t deny the fact that such an attitude is helping the people of Saudi Arabia.

Saudi nationals and expatriates are experiencing a cultural change that was much needed for peaceful, livable conditions. Owing to their conservative outlook, especially pertaining to the women in the kingdom, Saudi Arabia had for the longest time kept the female population of the country away from public life. But now not only are women allowed to drive but are also being included in prominent positions such as allowing them to join the military.

According to a news report, “in the wake of Saudi Arabia’s ‘Vision 2030’ which is opening up new work opportunities for women, the Saudi kingdom has announced soldier rank positions for them in the royal military.” This will change the social dynamic of the kingdom as women will be in decision-making positions, an opportunity that they were deprived of for years.
