PESHAWAR: Ophthalmologist and Vitreo Retinal Surgeon Prof Dr Mustafa Iqbal has successfully implanted dexamethasone implants in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. According to a statement issued on Sunday, a vein in the only eye of a 70-year old patient had been blocked. As a result, the septuagenarian lost his vision. He was injected with six doses of Avastin in various hospitals of Rawalpindi but his vision did not improve. The patient travelled to Peshawar for consultation with Professor Iqbal, who advised phacoemulsification with a dexamethasone implant. The operation was successfully carried out last month. The patient’s vision improved to 6/9 (in his only useful eye) within three weeks. Prof Iqbal then successfully carried out this implant in other patients with ocular inflammation ions with excellent results.
