PESHAWAR: The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) government is all set to release another Rs275 million for Darul Uloom Haqannia in Akora Khattak for construction work in the seminary.

Officials privy to these developments have informed The Express Tribune that a summary for the release of an "extra grant" has been sent to Chief Minister Pervez Khattak for approval by K-P Auqaf department.

Documents available with The Express Tribune show that the seminary needs an extra Rs275m for the establishment of an academic block.

The K-P government has already released Rs300 million for the seminary, but the project is set to cost Rs557.59 million, and thus to meet the total cost, extra funds are being released.

Officials said that the summary has been moved to the K-P chief minister, but it has not returned to the Auqaf department yet.

An official privy to the matter said that the CM has directed the authorities concerned to make a revised PC-1 for the project.

K-P Finance Minister Muzaffar Said refused to comment on the matter when contacted by reporters.

However, Auqaf Minister Habibur Rehman told media that Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Sami (JUI-S) spokesperson Maulana Yousaf Shah had requested the chief minister for the additional funds, after which a summary was prepared on the directives of the chief minister.

It is pertinent to mention here that Darul Uloom Haqannia Akora Khattak belongs to Maulana Samiul Haq of JUI-S, and PTI has fielded him in the upcoming Senate elections.
