ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Agriculture and Research Council (Parc) has planted 120,000 olive plants in Balochistan as part of a tree plantation campaign. Parc Chairman Dr Yusuf Zafar said that 60,000 saplings of olive trees are made in local nurseries, while the other half is imported from Italy. “These olive plants would be cultivated on 14,000 acres of land,” he said, adding that for the extraction of olive oil, a plant is being established in Quetta at a total cost of Rs2.25 billion. He said Parc has also established two centres in Turbat and Lasbela. “The total cost of the project is Rs300 million,” he said. The federal government would launch a solar energy programme and would distribute 30,000 solar pumps to farmers with small land holdings in Balochistan. “We have appointed 124 people from all over the province to fulfill 6% appointment quota of Balochistan in Parc,” he added.
