Verdict announced: Two convicted in murder cases

SARGODHA: The district courts awarded death sentence and life term to two accused for their involvement in murder cases in Sargodha on Wednesday.

In the first case, Additional Sessions Judge Rana Zahid Iqbal Khan sentenced a man to death for murdering his opponent. The prosecution told the court that accused Omer Hayat and his accomplices Imam Bakhsh and Iqbal had killed their opponent Muhammad Riaz over an enmity on April 15, 2016.

The local police registered a case against the accused and presented the challan before the court. After hearing the arguments, the judge handed down death sentence to Omer along with a fine of Rs0.5 million.

The judge acquitted the other co-accused by giving them the benefit of doubt. In another case, Additional District and Sessions Judge Ejaz Ahmad awarded life sentence to a man for killing a person.

The prosecution told the court that accused Azhar Javed, a resident of Chak No 22/SB, and his accomplices Maqbool, Munir and Zafar had killed Muhammad Boota after an argument over a petty dispute. However, the police arrested the accused and submitted a challan in the court. After hearing witnesses, the judge awarded life imprisonment to Azhar.

However, the court acquitted the other co-accused giving them the benefit of doubt. In addition, the court imposed a fine of Rs500,000 on the accused that would be given to the heirs of the deceased.

Meanwhile, Additional District and Sessions Judge Rana Zahid Iqbal Khan awarded three and a half years jail imprisonment to a drug peddler. The judge also imposed a fine of Rs100,000 on the convict.
