Against all odds: First-ever sports festival for women gets under way in Mohmand

Month-long festival sees participation from various schools, colleges of the agency

SHABQADAR: For the first time, a sporting competition was held for girls in Mohmand on Tuesday which saw students from colleges and schools in the agency participate.

The event was held at the Government Degree College for Women in Ekka Ghund. A large number of female students from the Ekka Ghund degree college, Ghallani Government Higher Secondary School and other girls high schools student participated in the event.

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa — a violent place for women

On the first day of the competition, students were engaged in a gruelling physical training drill followed by a tug of war between the two groups of students. Later matches of volleyball, table tennis and badminton were held between teams from different schools.

With this being the first ever competition of this kind in the agency, the students were quite excited. Student termed the event as healthy and demanded that more such events for girls should be organised inside the premises of their colleges and schools.

K-P govt announces policy guidelines for women empowerment

Earlier, Lower Mohmand Agency Assistant Political Agent Tauseef Khalid and the degree college’s principal kicked off the competition by planting a sapling in the college premises and inaugurating the tree plantation move in the agency.

Khalid said that women were an essential part of the community, which is why they had launched a sports competition for women in the college.

He hoped that through such healthy activities, students would be able to compete in the society in future.

Athletics: K-P to hold Women Games

Apart from sports, students would able to showcase their skills in a photography competition to show the soft image of the agency. That competition, Khalid clarified, is also open to boys.

Agency sports manager said that they organised the competition at the school and seminary level, adding that the festival will last for a month and conclude in a grand function on Pakistan Day, March 23.
