DOHA: A sultry breeze blowing in from the Arabian Gulf could not prevent three-time world 200 metres champion Allyson Felix from setting a season’s best of 50.33 in the 400 at the opening Diamond League meeting.

The American, who beat Botswana’s Amantle Montsho across the line, is contemplating a 200-400 double at this year’s World Championships in Daegu, South Korea. “It is a decent time, nothing special,” she said.

“We went out very conservatively in the first 200 metres, because it was kind of windy.” Felix’s compatriot Walter Dix set a year’s best in the men’s 200 metres, clocking 20.06 seconds to equal the meeting record.
