NAB chief lauded for role in recovery of missing persons

Justice (retd) Iqbal’s exception performance led to recovery of more than 2,800

ISLAMABAD: Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal has been lauded for his exceptional performance as president of the National Commission for Enforced Disappearances.

Due to the NAB chief’s personal interest and efforts, the commission has recovered more than 2,800 missing persons, besides ensuring their safe return to their homes, according to sources.

The sources said that as president of the commission, Justice (retd) Iqbal performed his duties for seven days a week and even on holidays without receiving any remuneration and salary. They said he met the families of missing persons and tried his utmost for their recovery.

Relatives of missing persons have also acknowledged the services of Justice (retd) Iqbal.

Due to the performance of the commission, according to the sources, the Supreme Court has also referred 300 cases of missing persons to the commission for their recovery. They said serious efforts are underway to recover the missing persons at the earliest.

The main reason behind the NAB chief’s success is said to be his commitment, dedication and sincerity to the cause of humanity.

Justice (retd) Javed has not been using government resources and pursuing the mission of recovering missing persons mostly by using his own resources, said the sources. And being president of the Abbottabad Inquiry Commission, he returned Rs6.1 million to the national exchequer and did not take a single penny for conducting a probe into the national tragedy.

Moreover, as chairman, he has made NAB a vibrant anti-corruption organisation of the country and devised a comprehensive anti-corruption strategy which has in four months yielded excellent results, said the sources, adding that today NAB is the hope of the nation, pursuing the case of eradication of corruption with the policy of "Accountability for All".
