13 songs to dedicate this Mother’s Day

MUMBAI:

Here’s a list of 13 famous Hindi film songs dedicated to mothers:

“Ma da ladla wigad gaya”: The fun number was picturised on Abhishek Bachchan, John Abrahma and Kirron Kher in the 2008 comedy Dostana and was an instant hit. The song has dialogues by Kirron, who feels her son Abhishek has gone out of hand after she learns that he is gay. Salem and Sunidhi Chauhan have sung it with a lot of humour.

“Mumma”: The song from the 2008 film Dasvidaniya is an extremely likeable melody composed and sung by Kailash Kher. A sweet, pleasing, rhythmic track, “Mumma” tugs at your heartstrings and is a good way to tell your mom that she is special.

“Maa”: Another emotional track dedicated to a mother was heard in the 2007 hit film Taare Zameen Par. It is totally different from “Mumma” and has a more poignant tone. A national award winning song composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, and written by Prasoon Joshi, “Maa” is a heart wrenching number that conveys a child’s feelings for his mother.

“Maye ni maye”: A lovely song sung by Lata Mangeshkar with a beautiful composition by Raam Laxman, it was part of 1994 mega musical hit Hum Aapke Hain Kaun? The fun song is about a daughter, played by Madhuri Dixit, who tells her mother, Reema Lagoo, that she is in love and that she should marry her off soon. The song was a chartbuster in 1994.

“Maa ne kaha”: This number creates a pensive mood, but at the same time is a beautifully composed number, sung by M.M. Kreem for 1998 film Zakhm. With minimal music, it describes a child’s inability to become what his mother wanted him to be.

“Maa oh meri maa”: Picturised on Anil Kapoor and Farida Jalal in the 1994 release Laadla, the song conveys that a son should take care for his mother in the same way she did when he was a kid. It was sung by Udit Narayan, Anand-Milind compsed it and Sameer penned the lyrics.

“Amma dekh haan dekh”: Also in 1994, Alka Yagnik and Bali Brahmbhatt sang “Amma dekh haan dekh” in Stuntman. It was different from “Maa oh meri maa” as it has a high dose of fun and is an extremely enjoyable song.

“Kushiyon ka din aaya hai”: It was one of the most popular mother-son songs from the 1992 film Beta. Composed by Anand-Milind and written by Sameer, the song reflected the joy of a child who is ecstatic after his father marries another woman and brings her home as his mother. Anuradha Paudwal sings it with the right emotion.

“Maiya meri main nahi makhan khaiyo”: Sung by Mukesh and written by Rajinder Krishan, this song from the 1977 film Charandas was composed by Rajesh Roshan. The song takes inspiration from the relationship shared by Lord Krishna and his mother Yashodha.

“O mummy mummy”: Another fun song dedicated to mothers from the 1997 comedy Deewana Mastana. It was picturised on Govinda, who is over excited after meeting a girl. Udit Narayan has infused the right emotions in the song, which is composed by Laxmikant and is thoroughly entertaining.

“Mummy o mummy”: This song is perfect for a light moment with your mother and it can be easily called a fun number. It featured in 1978 film Khatta Meetha and was sung by Kishore Kumar. The lyrics are by Gulzar and it was composed by Rajesh Roshan. It’s about a son asking his mother to find a bride for him.

“Tu kitni achhi hai”: When you think about songs dedicated to mothers, this song from the film Raja Aur Rank (1968) always comes to mind. Sung in praise of a mother, it was written by Anand Bakshi and composed by Laxmikant-Pyarelal. Lata Mangeshkar lent her vocals for the song.

“Ae maa teri surat se alag”: One of oldest and best songs, it compares a mother with the almighty and talks about her importance in children’s lives. Sung by Mahendra Kapoor, and composed by Rajesh Roshan, it is from the 1966 film Daadi Maa.
