KARACHI: The prolonged absence of the suspended SSP Rao Anwar from public view has fuelled suspicion that the Sindh government could be protecting him. Now, PPP co-chairman Asif Zardari in his recent interview in a TV programme reportedly defended the absconding police officer speaking of his bravery, back in the days of an operation against the MQM. He also sees Anwar’s alleged involvement in extra-judicial killings as mere speculation and overhyped by the media.
Already the PPP and some of its representatives had been linked to Anwar, and now this reported statement by Zardari establishes the connection more openly. It is time investigators questioned the PPP co-chairman and officials as well, especially for openly defending Anwar. These reported statements show defiance of the law and protection of an officer allegedly found involved in hundreds of encounters.
