KARACHI  : Chairman Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has urged Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi to shelve attempts to privatise Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and Pakistan Steel or  or ‘be ready to face stiff resistance.’

While presiding over a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Privatisation (CCoP), PM Abbasi had approved a privatisation plan for both PIA and Pakistan Steel.

Criticising Abbasi, the PPP chairman said that commoners and experts were taken aback by the decision of a man who led the PIA before he launched his own profit-making private airline.

Likewise, he added, Nawaz Sharif has dragged the largest state industrial unit to a point of operational death.

“Both PM Abbasi and the disqualified prime minister are conspiring to sell PIA and Pakistan Steel most probably to their undisclosed aides,” Bilawal said. “They are selling national assets on one hand and purchasing on the other.”

The PPP chief also directed his party to raise voice against, what he called, fraudulent privatisation of the new organisations in the Parliament and other available forums.

I am an MBA from Edgehill. I recommend Abbasi move to sell 49% stakes to private partners.

Private partners will stop any chance for any future Govt to loot money from PIA or selling PIA non required jobs. It will save our tax paid money and create more jobs elsewhere.

PIA will get back in profit and not only that it will get our pride back to work as a corporate just like Emirate or Turkish Airways. Recommend

PIA has become a company for PPP hirings. All their workers would be out of jobs, if it is privatized.Recommend

I am told this kid was educated at Oxford. When he comes up with this kind of comments I have to ask myself whether it was the madrasa wing of Oxford University where he spent his time.
We all know socialism as his grandfather used to preach is dead and buried.Recommend

Of course Bilawal might explain how PIA employee-to-aircraft ratio soared to some 700 per plane under PPP, while most of worlds airlines operate at a small fraction of that!
But of course that might require Bilawal talking about how PPP used PIA as a hiring hall for “deserving” party workers needing cushy jobs!Recommend

Bilawal clearly didn’t learn much economics at Oxford. Why else would he insist on keeping public enterprises that are bleeding the country dry.Recommend

PPP and a PMLN both responsible for the failure of public enterprises, PIA and PSM. Now, they are both dead, and on ventilator. They need to be liberated, and Pakistan needs to be liberated from these bleeding wounds. Privatisation is the only answer.Recommend
