ISLAMABAD: The Open Society Foundations (OSF) has decided to announce a scholarship for work on human rights in honour of late Asma Jahangir.

The announcement was made by OSF Pakistan’s country director Saba Gul Khattak at the inauguration of Mother Languages Literature Festival in Islamabad on Saturday.

“Asma Jahangir was on our international board. Open Society Foundations is going to announce scholarship on human rights in the name of Asma Jahangir,” she added.

Later, speaking to The Express Tribune, Khattak said no further details on the scholarship were available as only the decision had been made and modalities were yet to be decided.

“Last year when the festival was held we were sad due to the Sehwan Sharif blast. There is sadness this time too because of the death of Asma Jahangir,” said Khattak in her address at the two-day festival’s inaugural session.

Jahangir, one of the country’s most prominent rights activists, had passed away in a Lahore hospital on February 11.
