A day off for Valentine’s celebrations

Letter February 17, 2018
From courts banning the celebration of the day to the national media watchdog restricting broadcasting liberties

ISLAMABAD: Valentine’s Day has emerged as something of a national issue for many in the country. From courts banning the celebration of the day to the national media watchdog restricting the broadcasting liberties of the media houses on the day. The most ridiculously shocking incident happened at Peshawar University where the university administration announced a holiday in an attempt to ensure that no Valentine celebrations are conducted on the campus.

Assuming that announcing a holiday was the only way left for the university administration, it would not be surprising if other universities in the province also followed suit.
