Abbottabad: High court will hear petition on US action

Office of the court had rejected that the incidence took place in Abbottabad.

LAHORE:

The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday overruled the registrar office’s objection to a writ petition challenging the US raid on the residence of Osama Laden in Abbottabad and fixed May 9 for the preliminary hearing of the petition.

The office of the court had objected that the incident took place in Abbottabad which fell outside the jurisdiction of the LHC. The office had fixed it before Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed as an objection case who overruled the objection and fixed it for May 9. Petitioner Muhammad Ishtiaq argued that the US operation was a violation of the Constitution and US forces had defied the sovereignty of the state by attacking inside the country without permission.

He said US fighter helicopters had attacked Pakistani territory thus challenging the sovereignty and independence of Pakistan. He prayed that action be taken against those responsible and the government be directed to raise its voice against the recent US raid.
