Subzwari is part of the Amir Khan-led group posing opposition to Sattar’s choice of Senate candidates for the upcoming elections.
Timeline: MQM-Pakistan rift over Senate nominations
Earlier last week, an emotional moment was captured on camera by media and onlookers alike when a teary-eyed Subzwari approached Sattar outside the office of provincial election commission with Mayor Wasim Akhtar in tow and declared this was a ‘shameful moment’ for the party. The lawmaker gathered Sattar to him in a tearful embrace while party workers chanted ‘hum aik hain [we are one]’.
The rift within the party has widened in the past week with both sides unwilling to set aside differences. On February 8, both the groups submitted nomination papers to the ECP with nine members of the Sattar-led group and six candidates of the Khan-led group.
