PML-N’s Hina Pervez Butt requested to name law department of Punjab University after Asma Jahangir

LAHORE: A woman legislator of the ruling party has demanded of her own government to name a law department of the Punjab University (PU) after prominent lawyer and human rights activist Asma Jahangir.

The PML-N’s Hina Pervez Butt made this demand through her resolution she submitted in the Punjab Assembly. She contended in her resolution that Asma was a voice of deprived people who fought for their rights either in courts or outside of the courts. Asma was a brave woman who always supported the truth. “No one can forget her struggle for democracy and for the restoration of judges.

Asma was the first woman who was elected president of Supreme Court Bar Association,” the legislator remarked in her resolution. She also contributed towards the legislation over different sensitive issues. The lawmaker said Asma’s services for the nation were remarkable which could not be forgotten.

She said the need of the hour was a law department of the Punjab University be given the name of the Asma Jahangir to pay her tribute.
