Right to vote

Letter February 15, 2018
The government must assure no bias or discrimination is practised towards transgender people during the next elections

PESHAWAR: Reminiscent of the past experiences, the transgender community fears being stripped off its rights in the upcoming polls and has requested the provincial court to initiate a necessary action to assure that members of the transgender community too are allowed to exercise their right to vote. As the government is taking steps for the inclusion of the community in economic and social affairs, it must assure that no bias or discrimination is practised towards transgender people during the next general elections.

In fact, as the government has enacted legislation to enhance women’s turnout in polls, it would be rather favourable if the same is done for the transgender community too, to lawfully secure their right to vote.
