Identification: CAMB resolves 3,000 cases using DNA

The forensic lab started work in 2003, the achievements were pride for the whole nation

LAHORE: The forensic laboratory of the Centre for Applied Molecular Biology (CAMB) has so far resolved 3,000 cases, including the most complex ones and having international importance. CAMB Director of Punjab University Prof Dr Nadeem Sheikh said this the other day. “On the basis of DNA analysis, we resolved cases, including high profile cases like terrorist attack on Sri Lankan cricket team,” he added. He maintained the forensic lab started work in 2003 and the achievements it got so far were pride for not only CAMB but also for the whole nation. He pointed out, “We helped the law enforcement agencies to find out the culprits on the basis of DNA.” He said that by using our expertise, the Punjab government had set up Punjab Forensic Agency (PFA). “PFA is now responsible for all deeds related to identification, detection, screening works related to DNA at provincial and national level,” he remarked. Nadeem said the CAMB had various disciplines and it was engaged in research and development tasks. He said that DNA had high importance in crime investigation process and was best example of application of scientific research in our real life.
