Pakistan’s watershed moment

This is a courageous step taken by the organisers of the award show

KARACHI: Following in the footsteps of the international #MeToo movement, the Lux Style Awards this year will launch its own #MaiBhi movement that will have female celebrities come together to share their stories of abuse, as a child or an adult. They will be doing this to stand in solidarity with women across the country, with the ones who are not ready to speak up and with the ones who have no opportunity and platform to do that.

This is a courageous step taken by the organisers of the award show and needs to be lauded. Media outlets should also join hands and start a campaign as media especially the broadcast media have the unique opportunity to speak to a large audience. This will probably create Pakistan’s own watershed moment. And it is high time there was one.
