Irreparable loss

Letter February 13, 2018
Asma too was surrounded with many controversies

KARACHI: On February 11th, Pakistan lost one of the most astute, fearless and defiant voice of human rights advocacy. In a state like Pakistan where the cause of human rights is often suppressed as it is at odds with political and religious ideologies, Asma Jahangir was courageous enough to stand against all the odds and voice her opinions unfazed by any external and internal pressure.

Like any other vocal supporter of a cause in the country, Asma too was surrounded with many controversies so much so that even her religious faith was put under question. One among the very few female leaders and politicians who played a pivotal role in promoting a cause, Asma too shall be remembered as someone who became the voice of the voiceless.
