'Sexual assaults, other incidents in Mardan schools may be linked with drug abuse'
KP education department highlights need to address the issue
MARDAN:
The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa education department has conceded that that a number of sexual assaults and other incidents across Mardan may be linked to drug abuse in schools.
Responding to a letter sent by the District Education Officer, alerting the authorities about drug abuse in schools, Mardan District Nazim Himayatullah Mayar accused the K-P education department of shirking from its responsibility in handling the situation. “Only writing a letter to certain offices does not lighten your responsibilities as district head of education department,” Mayar said in his reply.
He requested the department to take measures to cope with the situation, including counseling and capacity building focusing on social and moral behavioural education of students.
